McDowell Mountain Ranch is located in Scottsdale, the county of Maricopa and the state of Arizona.
McDowell Mountain Ranch is a master planned community nestled in the foothills of the magnificent McDowell Mountains, offering panoramic views of the majestic beauty of Scottsdale. It was completed in June of 2003. The community has been voted among the top 5-10 master planned communities annually since 1998. It was voted number 2 of the “Top 10 Master Planned Communities for 2001” in Ranking Arizona published by Arizona Business Magazine.
It is a family oriented community with a wide range of amenities designed for an active lifestyle. There is a five-acre park, a community center with a swimming pool, spa, basketball, tennis and sand volleyball courts and a very popular splash fountain. There are miles of trails connecting neighborhoods to each other and to the Scottsdale Public Library, Citizen Service Center, entary and and recreation center.
Desert Canyon School (K-8) opened its combined campus in August of 1998 and is one of only two sites in the Scottsdale Unified School offering K-8.
The Sanctuary Golf Course, a public championship course designed by Randy Heckenkemper, opened in spring of 2000. It is a 6,624 yard, par 71 course, with seven of its 18 holes lying on land donated by McDowell Mountain Ranch. The front nine is links-style golf, with plenty of fairway landing area; the back nine becomes more desert, target-style golf with carries over rock washes that require accuracy and distance. Number eight is one of two signature holes on the Sanctuary. A par three, alongside the course's biggest lake extends from tee to green. The eighteenth hole is the second signature hole, a beautiful par five, with views into the McDowell Mountains.
The 10,000 square foot clubhouse features a full-service restaurant and multi-use pavilion for special events.
Desert Canyon Shopping Center within the community features seven buildings containing 60,000 square feet of retail, medical and office space.
